Abstract Futures, a 600-square-foot glass mosaic mural by the feminist artist collective Hilma’s Ghost, is set to make its permanent debut at New York's iconic Grand Central Station in May 2025. The mural, commissioned by MTA Arts & Design for the station’s 7th Avenue subway entrance, was awarded through a competitive selection process overseen by a panel of esteemed art professionals.
The artwork, which combines themes of magic, abstraction, feminism, and spiritual exploration, draws on a rich array of archetypal symbols. These symbols, featured in the collective’s collaborative paintings and Tarot deck, explore the shared journey of every commuter. By integrating these abstract elements, Abstract Futures offers an immersive experience that reflects the intersection of the urban and spiritual landscapes, providing a contemporary and dynamic contribution to Grand Central’s station rehabilitation.

This new commission fuses magic, abstraction, feminism and more, and plays on the idea of a commuter’s journey through a collection of archetypal abstract symbols used in our collaborative paintings and Tarot Deck. The artwork speaks to the shared experience of every commuter and will provide a dynamic, contemporary experience to support the station rehabilitation. We are thrilled to be working with Stephen Miotto and MTA Arts & Design on this commission, with the unveiling scheduled for May 2025.
